This session inspired a group of participants to write a letter to the authors of the Leap Manifesto. In it, we share the rich harvest of ideas our dialogue generated about how to take the Manifesto forward, create the possibility for it to spread virally, and spark the peaceful revolution that is needed today. The Leap Manifesto: A Call for a Canada Based on Caring for the Earth and One Another is a vision document written in the spring of 2015 with contributions from 60 representatives from Canada’s Indigenous rights, social and food justice, environmental, faith-based and labour movements. It articulates the dream that Unify Toronto stands for: a just, sustainable, thriving world. And it lays out 15 specific action areas to help us make the shift, rebalancing our relationships with each other and the planet.
The Manifesto offers a non-partisan transformative agenda that can help shape the actions of the new government. In this session, we took the Manifesto as a springboard for structured dialogue on the local implications of the 15 Demands stated in the Manifesto, exploring how it can inspire our collective action for rapid transformative change.
