Following upon our initial context setting questions from the first session of the Unify Toronto Dialogues' Remaking a Living series, based on principles from the Idle No More movement and Indigenous world views and economies, we explored these further questions:
- What might an economic system based on traditional teachings of balance and harmony look like in a modern urban context?
- In the Toronto context, how best can we indigenous and non-indigenous city dwellers (including the human and non-human) learn to bring about the necessary changes in governance and economic relationships that will enhance the quality of life for all of us?
Also, building on our introduction last month to Theory U from the Presencing Institute, we explored together the implications of this approach to economies that serve all people, by discussing:
- What would an EcoSystem-based economy look like?
- How can we get there from our present competitive, individualistic, narrow world-view EgoSystem (e.g., "my wealth, my company, my country", etc.)?
As in our June session, we again posed some deep reflective questions followed by engaged small group discussion and large group conversation about where and how we can design new prototypes for an effective, inclusive economy that is in harmony with Indigenous world views of relatedness.
